The JV Panthers suffered a tough loss in the final game of the season at Sumter 42-34. Sumter’s JV team is very good, they are long and athletic. The first time these 2 teams met, Sumter own by 17 points. This game the Panthers played much better and competed hard all night. The first quarter was back and forth but ultimately the Panthers couldn’t make enough shots and found themselves down by 3. In the 2nd quarter Sumter ramped up their pressure and forced some turnovers. This helped them grown a lead over 5 points in 2nd quarter but a good final minute from the Panthers including a last second score sent the Panthers into half only down 3. In the 2nd half, the Panthers came out looking great with back to back 3 point plays. They now had a 3 point lead and were able to build the lead up to 5 at one point. Eventually Sumter’s pressure started getting the best of the Panthers again and turnovers started really hurting the Panthers. Sumter stormed back into the lead and headed into the 4th quarter with a 3 point lead. In the 4th, the Panthers turned it over a couple of more times early on and Sumter grew it’s lead to 10 points. The rest of the way the Panthers fought hard to cut into the lead and did, they never stopped working hard but were simply not able to make enough shots in the end. The JV Panthers finished the season with a 9-7 record. They took a couple tough losses to some team’s they should of beaten but always played the best teams really well including giving West Florence their only loss of the season. Scoring breakdown: Ethan Hillman 11, Dylan Duncan 9, Darin Goss 7, Mark Walker, Devon Jennings 2 and Christian Blanchard 1.
