The Carolina Forest girls golf team go back to back, and for the 3rd time in the last 4 years the Lady Panthers capture the Division 5A region 6 championship yesterday at Shaftsbury Glen Golf Club edging out St. James by 12 shots.
Leading the Panthers was Senior Alayna Fortenberry who was co-medalist for the individual title shooting a personal best for post season play. Fortenberry shot an incredible -2 under par 70, and was one of three panthers who shot their personal best tournament scores. Freshman Gracelyn Toler and 8th grader Savannah Sansom both shattered their personal best scores which helped lift the team to their 2nd region title in a row. Senior Victoria Callahan continues to play solid, and rookie Emily Gerrets is showing she is a great new addition to the team.
Coach Mike Gray who is in his 3rd year coaching the lady panthers said, “I knew these girls were close to start putting up amazing scores. I have seen their games’ develop over the last few years, and they work hard everyday. Its awesome to see all their hard work and practice pay off. I am so proud of all of them.”
The girls will now move on to compete in the South Carolina 5A lower state championship next Monday at Shaftsbury Glen.
