Last night was the third region game for the Carolina Forest Panthers against the St. James Sharks. The final score was 6 – 1 Panthers. The game started off with some back and forth between both teams possessing the ball with more pressure on their side of the 50 than the CF side. Carolina Forest found their first goal around the 15 minute mark of the game when #3 Lexi Lilly scored off a deflection from #7 Emma Bucci’s shot. Lilly was in the right place at the right time and followed the shot so she was able to knock in the deflection into the net. After this goal the Panthers kept the pressure up on the St. James side with some nice crosses in front of their keeper. The second goal of the game was scored by #11 Sidney Croland assisted by #2 Reilly Ward on a cross from the left. The third goal of the half was scored this time by #2 Reilly Ward off a deflection from #3 Lexi Lilly’s shot. Again this was a good sign that our players are getting into the right spots when shots happen that they can clean up the loose balls in front of the net. The halftime score was 3 – 0 CF. At this point some players got moved around and new players were able to come into the game for the Panthers. The first goal found its way into the net within the first 5 minutes. #3 Lexi Lilly had her second goal of the night this time assisted by #5 Gianna Pavone. St. James started to bring the pressure to the Panthers in this second half which they spent more time on the CF side of the 50. The next goal scored was by #7 Emma Bucci who dribbled and found her sweet spot on the field to find her ball into the back of the net. Towards the halfway part of the second half St. James was able to find a goal. It was a hard shot on the keeper and just couldn’t quite get a handle on the ball. It was called a goal but couldn’t quite see if the ball actually crossed the line or not. Nonetheless, the Panthers were able to score one more time before the game was over. The last goal was scored by #10 Kacey Miller assisted by #9 Abbie McCoy who was able to play some midfield after leaving the defense. The starting defense did their job tonight and helped get the W. #9 Abbie McCoy, #4 Katie Kulick, #13 Maddie Zettergren, #14 Gabby Giracello and #8 Cameron McWhorter. #7 Emma Bucci and keeper #17 Paige Petrizzo also found some time in the defense as well. Carolina Forest plays again Friday night at Conway.
